  • Tezuka starts his first 4 frame-cartoon serizalization.
    • The magazine, Shonen is launched.
    • Manga Shonen is launched.
    • Akahon (i.e. low price comic books) enters the golden age, gaining popularity.
    • Tokyo Children Manga Association (so-called Jiman Nagaya) is established.
  • Tezuka graduates from the medical department of Osaka University.
    Jungle Emperor Leo is published firstly in the form of a comic book among his other serialization.

  • Tezuka moves to Tokyo.
    Tezuka passes the national examination for medical practitioners.

  • Tezuka receives the 3rd Shogakukan Manga Award.
    The release of three different editions of Tezuka manga complete works, including Kobunsha Edition, starts (a total of 50 volumes).
    Tezuka joins Toei Douga as the staff for Alakazan the Great.
    The novel, Gijinkyo is serialized on Chugakusei no Tomo.

  • The first JapaneseTV animation series, Astro Boy is broadcast nationwide.
    Tezuka becomes one of the drafters for Declaration of New Manga Movement.
    Tezuka receives the 1st Ofuji Noburo Award for Tales of the Street Corner.

    Tezuka receives the Special Award of the 2nd TV Reporters Society Award for Astro Boy.

    Tezuka receives the Children's Welfare and Cultural Award for Jungle Emperor Leo.

  • Tezuka receives the 5th Ofuji Noburo Award of Mainichi Film Contest and the 21st National Arts Festival Encouragement Award for Pictures at an Exhibition.

    Tezuka Osamu Portfolio is published from Bunminsha.
