STORY

The story is set during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, a time when Hideyoshi launched an attack on Odawara Castle. Sasuke, the son of a farming family, assists his parents while training in Ninjutsu under Master Tozawa. Tragically, he loses his parents due to the war, and his friend, Sai, also suffers a loss, as her older sister has been killed in the conflict. In response to their grief, Sasuke joins a secret group led by Kiyoumi Miyoshi to seek vengeance against samurai warriors responsible for the war. All the members of this group are farmers who have lost family members because of the conflict.

Soon, Sasuke encounters Yukimura Sanada and his son, Daisuke, after defeating a roughneck named Goemon Ishikawa in Kyoto. Utilizing his Ninjutsu skills, Sasuke helps the two.

This is a children’s manga based on the popular ninja figure Sarutobi Sasuke, well known in Japanese traditional performing arts. Sasuke is a fictional character, said to have been active in today’s Ueda city, Nagano Prefecture. He was created as an imaginary retainer of the real Sengoku-period warlord Sanada Yukimura, who opposed Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Sasuke gained popularity through Kōdan (traditional storytelling), and from the Meiji to Showa periods became a heroic figure for many Japanese people, with numerous legendary episodes attributed to him.
