Jungle Emperor Leo

 

1 Go, Panja's child 1965/10/06

The white lion Panja, king of the jungle, dies. He sacrifices himself for his wife Eliza in trying to save her when she is captured by humans. Eliza gives birth to a baby on a transport ship, and names him Leo. She wants to save Leo, who carried the blood of Panja, so she has him escape from the sinking ship in the middle of a storm. 2 Desert storm 1965/10/13

Mandy the orangutan and Coco the parrot are very glad to find that the white baby lion that had been washed ashore is Panja's child. However, Leo is abducted by a group of death traders. 3 Animal School 1965/10/20

Kenichi and Mary, who were involved in an airplane accident, wander into the jungle where Leo and his friends live. Leo is very impressed when he sees Kenichi curing an animal by playing his flute, so he opens an animal school to absorb this kind of wisdom.

4 Fierce bull Samson 1965/10/27

Panja's old friend Samson discriminates against animals that live with humans. He gives Leo a mule and says that domestic animals are traitors that must eat by others according to the law of the jungle. However, Leo firmly rejects such barbarism…

5 The continent as one remembered 1965/11/03

The child leopard Rugar, who thinks his grandfather Rupe was killed by Panja, attacks Leo. But Leo had met Rupe in a sewer in Paris, and had promised Rupe that he would…

6 Starved savanna 1965/11/10

There is a long spell of drought, and somebody has eaten all the precious grass. Seeing his fellows going hungry, Leo tells them that they can live without being bothered by the weather if they cultivate fields like humans do.

7 The duel in Donga 1965/11/17

The Black Panther Totto is against the jungle being firmly united by Leo. So he cunningly engenders distrust among the animals of the jungle. 8 Crazy clouds 1965/11/24

The carnivorous animals stop eating meat and become herbivorous upon Leo's suggestion, but they grow weak due to lack of protein. Leo is at a loss when they begin complaining. 9 The king with wings 1965/12/01

A scientist named Beast transplants the nerve of a great eagle to a tiger, and creates Winger, a tiger with wings. Then Winger kidnaps Romi's mother. Leo asks the doctor to put wings on his back so that he can get back the mother. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Kataoka Chuzo

10 Two hearts 1965/12/08

The film crews that come to the jungle where Leo and his friends live think they have the right to do anything for their film. They set fire in the jungle, and try to kill Lyre in the fire. Leo sets out to rescue her. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Seyama Yoshifumi

11 Conga Hunting Ground (first part) 1965/12/15

The chief guard of the Conga Hunting Ground continues training captured animals to become violent, because he thinks hunting would be more fun that way. Leo prevails upon him to stop this outrage, but is lured into a trap by Congo's lion Kim. He is in a desperate situation when a huge mammoth of a legendary mountain saves him. 13 Big chorus in the thick forest 1965/12/29

14 Androcres Story 1966/01/05

15 Egg, Egg, Egg 1966/01/12

During a spring-cleaning of the Jungle School, Tarchie takes some eggs for garbage and throws them into the river. The mother birds were panic. The students go down the river and at last retrieve the eggs. The mother birds collect their eggs, but one egg is left untouched. So Leo is obliged to take the egg himself. 16 The flaming river 1966/01/19

The crocodile Gabuga attacks animals on the land. When he sees that his baby crocodile Pichie has drunk gasoline by mistake, he thinks Pichie's friends on the land have poisoned his child. 17 The strange blue snake 1966/01/26

18 Vera and a medal 1966/02/02

The wild boar Vera, who has a strong inferior complex about her appearance, is laughed at even by her dear friend Ruca's mother. 19 The forbidden hut 1966/02/09

Leo meets his sister Ryona by chance in an abandoned village of a wood he has accidentally wandered into. Then Leo learns that Panja had once lived in the village as its guardian angel. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Katsui Chikao

20 Confusion in the restaurant

21 Sandy comes back 1966/02/23

Sandy lost a fight with Mandy for the position of boss ten years ago. Now Sandy comes back to the jungle with his followers to take revenge on Mandy. Sandy threatens to spray sulfurous gas in the jungle if Mandy is not handed over to him. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Nagashima Shinji

22 Old boy Percy 1966/03/02

An epidemic breaks out in a village, so Leo and the old barberry sheep Percy head for the rocky mountain Rock to find the cure. However, it is a dangerous place haunted by flying lizards that appear at night. STAFF Screenplay: Gomi Akira Rendition: Kitano Hideaki

23 The gigantic insect 1966/03/09

A swarm of grasshoppers fly out of the cracks on the ground. Suddenly there is an excess supply of food, and carnivorous animals become stout. Then appears a grasshopper that has become gigantic by radioactivity. The carnivorous animals are too fat to move, so Leo has to fight the huge grasshopper alone. 24 Mammy in the forest 1966/03/16

Bubu and Totto force an old horned owl to make a poisonous drug, and give it to Leo. The two are pleased because they think they have killed Leo by poison. However, the drug causes only numbness. 25 The little elephant Jumbo 1966/03/23

Leo finds out that thousands of elephants have been killed by Congo and his men, and tells the elephant boss Darba about it. Darba, however, does not believe him. 26 Meat of peace 1966/03/30

Oba does not like the idea of making friends with herbivorous animals. So she gives meat to her children, and has them come to like its taste. The children are fascinated by the taste; their instincts as carnivorous animals are awakened and they try to attack herbivorous animals. 27 The sad chameleon 1966/04/06

The chameleon Bero is a liar and he makes everybody angry by his lies. A pigmy hippopotamus Kabu is after him. So Leo tries to put an end to Bero's lying habit, only to get himself angry when he is deceived by Bero's lying. Leo expels Bero from the jungle, but finding that Bero is trying to commit suicide out of despair, he follows Bero hurriedly. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Seyama Yoshifumi

28 The wildcat Myuu 1966/04/13

The wild cat Myuu disturbs the order of the jungle. Nevertheless, Leo tries to accept her as one of their members. So he dares to act as if she were his friend. 29 The carnivorous plant Araune 1966/04/20

The animals of the jungle suddenly start fighting each other in a fit of madness. The cause of this behavior turns out to be the smell of a gigantic plant Araune. Moreover, it is a carnivorous flower. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Seyama Yoshifumi

30 The tracking journey 1966/04/27

Raiza and Maroji come to see Leo. Maroji, who does not want Leo to treat him as an elderly one, follows the car that humans Don and his father Lowtle are driving to town. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Kitano Hideaki

31 The mystery of the dead man's cave 1966/05/04

Leo jumps into the dead man's cave to save one of his fellows. A lizard attacks Leo in the cave, but Leo does manage to save his friend. When they are passing through a hollow, they find a golden city protected by an old turtle at its end. 32 The last poacher 1966/05/11

33 The case of tusk less Huke 1966/05/18

Tom, the child of a white egret, is thrown into a river. Then the drifter hippopotamus Huke is accused of killing Tom. Leo does not think Huke is responsible, so he tries to prove Huke's innocence. 34 The counterattack by Black Panther Totto (the first part) 1966/06/01

Leo and his fellows try to build an amusement park in the jungle, but it is in Bubu's territory. Bubu becomes angry, and tells his followers to attack Leo.
The amusement park is now going to be built. However, soon after Totto betrays Bubu and joins Leo and his fellows, Totto encourages them to behave languidly and in a slovenly manner. 35 The counterattack by Black Panther Totto (the latter part) 1966/06/01

Leo and his fellows try to build an amusement park in the jungle, but it is in Bubu's territory. Bubu becomes angry, and tells his followers to attack Leo.

36 The monster in Mask Valley 1966/06/08

The monster of Mask Valley, the strange bird Moa, becomes friends with Leo and comes to the jungle, but cannot get used to the life there. Leo continues to cover up for Moa, who causes trouble all over the jungle. However, when Moa chases the hedgehog Harley and nearly scares him to death because he wants to eat it, Leo can no longer cover up for him. 37 The howling statue of evil 1966/06/15

Leo and Mandy are thinking of leveling down the east valley, where the statue of evil is kept, to irrigate water to the fields. However, the valley turns out to be a sacred place for hippopotamuses. 38 The island of volcanic lake 1966/06/22

39 The crazed season 1966/06/29

A herd of antelope is going to move to another place because they are starving due to drought. Leo tries to stop them because it is too dangerous to move the whole herd right now. 40 The rowdy ones of the plains 1966/07/06

The little boy Mar is so fond of Leo that he always follows him. Mar's grandfather Tom, however, it is not aware of this. 41 The wandering gods of death 1966/07/13

Three outlaws that are feared as the gods of death appear. Even Leo is no match for them. Seeing Leo being defeated, Mandy argues that they should leave the jungle as soon as Leo's wound heals. Coco, however, objects, saying that simply running away from vicious enemies doesn't solve any problems. He encourages the injured Leo, and trains him for a return match with the gods of death. 42 The mischievous deed 1966/07/20

43 The raged Chimiset 1966/07/27

Leo and Kuma-suke go down a river on a raft looking for a Chimiset bear, but a storm throws them into the river. This misfortune, however, gives them a chance to meet the Chimiset's baby Misette. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Seyama Yoshifumi

44 The rainbow valley 1966/08/03

Leo and his friends are talking about the rainbow valley that they have not yet been to. Kenny hears them talking and goes to investigate the route to the valley, but gets captured by the elephant Pagura on his way. When Leo goes to save him, Pagura tells Leo that he will let Leo pass into the rainbow valley if he keeps swimming in the bottomless marsh for ten days. 45 The illusionary mountain 1966/08/10

An army of tanks led by Mary together with a wild beast corps stage an assault on the jungle. Despite their brave fight, Leo and his fellows are driven into the sandbank of a river, and Kenichi and Higeoyaji are captured. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Nagashima Shinji

46 Jane from the town 1966/08/17

Tarchi's older sister Jane, who had been living with humans, comes back to the jungle. Jane behaves like a queen and says she is going to build her house on the ground where Leo and his friends have their play tree. 47 The spotted spider 1966/08/24

A huge spider attacks Leo, and he is hung on a spider's web deep in the jungle. The trapped Leo is barely saved by lightning. When he returns to the jungle in relief, he is astounded to find the whole forest covered with spider webs. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Hirata Toshio

48 The red tusk 1966/08/31

A fire called the "Red Tusk" sweeps over the jungle where the elephant Jumbo lives. Jumbo and his fellows lose their food and place to live, so Leo takes them to the swamp that is the territory of another group of elephants. 49 The tree of the morning sun 1966/09/07

An old mandrill named Canty lives in a big tree called the "tree of the morning sun." When Leo and Mandy visit him, he asks them to find a cure for this wonderful tree, which is suffering from a disease. STAFF Screenplay: Tsuji Masaki Rendition: Nagashima Shinji

50 Explorer Otto 1966/09/14

51 The big shrine on the Nile 1966/09/21

Leo, his older sister Ryona, and some okapis are carrying their ancestors' fur to a big shrine when they encounter enemies, and some precious furs are thrown into the river during the fight. When Ryona finds out, she gets angry and quarrels with Leo. Immediately after that, the news that Ryona was killed in the shrine reaches the jungle. 52 The man-eating lion 1966/09/28

A lion that was too old to get any food has no choice but to eat a human baby. Then he runs away into the jungle with a squad of hunters after him. Mandy shelters him, but Coco accuses Mandy of putting the whole jungle in danger of a human attack by saving the lion.
