STORY/DESCRIPTIONS

1970/09/01 Published in COM (Mushi Pro Shoji)

This short manga features the Tokiwaso Apartments, known as the residence where several renowned Japanese manga artists lived early in their careers. Among those artists were Osamu Tezuka, Fujio Fujiko, Shotaro Ishinomori, Fujio Akatsuka, and Hiroo Terada. Also, some more manga artists visited the apartment to inspire their creativity through friendly competition with them.

The story, an homage to the apartment building, is narrated from the perspective of the anthropomorphized apartment building that introduces each tenant one by one. So far, much has been documented about the apartment and the time by people involved in the realm of manga, such as manga artists and researchers; however, this story does not provide extensive details. Nonetheless, this story is unique enough as Tezuka’s biographical story in a rather flat and objective tone despite being authored by himself.
