from "Phoenix: Dawn"
Uncouth but honest, a father figure you can depend on. Like Van Heflin in the famous movie "Shane", and in newer productions, John "Flintstone" Goodman who have made this type of role their forte, Chikara Aritake is a talented support player. He doesn't have what it takes to be a star, but is essentially a stable guy whose appearance allows you to breathe a sigh of relief. Tezuka Osamu himself goes so far as to say, "I drew Chikara without really being aware of it," which seems to indicate that his creator also recognized this stalwart stability. Maybe because of this, he sometimes plays two or even three parts in the same work, and Chikara is like the kind of guy you can count on in times of trouble.
