from "Ayako"
From his debut in the sci-fi long-short story, "The Black Starship", Geta was an ardent actor who committed his entire career to playing policemen. Under normal circumstances, you'd expect an actor to plead with the writer occasionally to give him a different role, but Geta went the whole hog and played the same role for the duration of his acting career. Although he was assigned the same type of part even in his odd appearances in period dramas this was no travesty, rather for Geta it was a source of gratification. At any rate, aside from Geta, no other characters were ever commissioned to perform the role of the conscientious, reliable detective, and as such he was an important star in Tezuka Osamu's world.
