This is a collection of Tezuka Osamu's essays on the development of modern society, in which he takes a studied look at topics such as the future of modern science, super express trains, space development including the moon landing, as well as the international exposition held during those years in Japan, production-use robots, and more. The essays serve to express Tezuka Osamu's view, as the man who created Astro Boy and a medical doctor himself, that the reckless pursuit of science-particularly biotechnology-posed an imminent danger to mankind. The essay series entitled "Living on this tiny earth of ours" can be considered a warning against the dangers of modern science, which is, in Tezuka Osamu's opinion, leading us down the road to destruction. "My Travel Diary," also in the collection, is a description of the author's travels that illustrates the fact that Tezuka Osamu took interest not only in scenery and food on his journeys, but also in the way in which people interact with the earth as well as their daily existence.
The above represents a re-arrangement of works based on the four titles "Tezuka Osamu Land" and "Tezuka Osamu Land 2," published in 1977 and 1978 respectively by Daiwa Shobo, and "The Complete Tezuka Osamu 1" and "The Complete Tezuka Osamu 2," published by Magazine House in 1993.
