It was said that every night, a monster wondered through town. People said that you should never look at it. One night, however, a woman could not resist peeping through the door. What she saw was a single wheel. "You saw me" the wheel grunted and rolled down toward her. In a flash, it snatched the woman's little child. The woman let out a scream and ran in a frenzy after her kidnapped child. This is the beginning of a long journey to get her child back.
This old tale conveys an atmosphere similar to "Kishimo-jin" which describes the teachings of Buddhism. To atone for a single mistake it is necessary to go on a long journey. Tezuka Osamu tells us one aspect of life in this picture book.
