STORY

Jack planted beans in his garden, then the beanstalk grew up and up until it reached the clouds in the sky. Above the clouds was a castle inhabited by a giant. Jack sneaked into the castle and found a hen that laid golden eggs. When he brought the hen back home, his mother said, "That is our treasure, it was stolen from us by somebody". Jack climbed the beanstalk to the giant's castle again, and took back a golden harp this time. This was also a treasure stolen from his house. But the harp began to sing and woke the giant. Now he started to chase Jack...

DESCRIPTIONS

The story is written by Kume Genichi and illustrated by Tezuka Osamu. Here, the story of how Jack came to get the beans is totally omitted. In addition, all the treasures Jack brings back from the giant's castle, have been altered to become his family's treasure which was stolen from the house. It seems that these changes were made to avoid some people frowning on the idea of Jack's being cheated by bad adults and stealing treasure from the giant's castle.
