★Yunomae Cartoon Museum to hold “Aso and Osamu Tezuka” Exhibition Starting July 19★

A theater event will be held for Osamu Tezuka as the Symbol of Kumamoto and Aso.

Yunomae Cartoon Museum will hold a “60th Anniversary Event for Phoenix – Osamu Tezuka and Aso” exhibition from July 19, 2014 (Saturday) to October 5.

Osamu Tezuka is also known as “the God of manga,” and a pioneer in creating the modern manga story. The work that Tezuka was most passionate about and continued drawing until his death, “Phoenix”, will be celebrating its 60th anniversary.

“Phoenix” is a grand epic that is based around human life and death. The story set the stage for the very beginning as symbol for Kumamoto and Aso.

Tezuka went to Kumamoto before writing “Phoenix” and visited the crater of Aso. Since then, the crater has appeared occasionally throughout Tezuka’s work.

The exhibition will show the various works in which Aso is expressed and show off the hand-drawn manuscripts. Tezuka’s other manuscripts will be on display to show off the charm of his work.
