Skunk

Explanation

  •
  • When watching action movies, one is conscious that there are certain punk-like characters whose faces frequently appear in this type of role. Such characters are rarely cast as the bad guy who will go up against the leading character, but appear as an underling to the villain, and as such they light up one corner of the screen with their villainous personalities. Skunk Kusai is that type of actor. That said, the model for this character was a guy who took on leading roles too, the American actor, Richard Widmark; an actor who just given a place to stand would turn in an imposing performance. After "Atom" however, Skunk wasn't readily given a stage on which to give maximum reign to his charms. Even so, whenever he put in an appearance, he never lost the spark of individuality to run away with a scene. This type of actor is in fact the most useful, whether it be in movies or in the world of Tezuka Osamu. The famous hyena-like laugh that became a Widmark trademark after the Hollywood movie "Kiss of Death", was also one of his skills as an actor.
