Since his debut, the story of "Faust" had always been on Tezuka Osamu's mind. A man slowly deteriorates as he becomes possessed by evil, the lives of people around him become confused by his behavior, and Mephist watches them idly with a sneer. Tezuka Osamu must have been attracted by the story's structure, as he had witnessed the brutality of human nature in war. He quoted this book in his Manga several times, and planned to make an animated version, but the project was always called off. This work was to make his dream come true at last, but he was unfortunately struck by an illness and died when he was working on the synopsis. This was one of his unfinished works.
